The Walking Kazoo

Hello again dear eva-fellows! What’s up? Hope everything’s fine for you as it is for us!

As you know, we released our very first short movie last week and we are really happy of all the good feedback we are receiving! So, do you like it? if you missed it, well, no trouble, you can reach it directly on our Vimeo Page, or just clicking on the “DAYDREAM” preview on the left column of this blog! Of course, every positive or (hopefully not :D) negative feedback or comment is REALLY appreciated, so don’t be shy and tell us what you think! ;)

However, as usual, in this post I’ll give you some suggestion of what is thrilling the Gang in these days, and obviously while doing that, I’ll listen to some new cool music!

The amazing album I’m listening to right now is one of the last I bought, “Ogni riferimento… è puramente casuale” from Calibro35, probably the most intresting band in Italy of these days, for me at least! Listen to them and support this great band!

The second suggestion I’ll give you tonight is a very absorbing TV show, Dexter. LuckyBastard introduced me to the series right during the making of DAYDREAM and it really fascinated me, expecially for its particular and rather “claustrophobic” photography, as you can see from its brilliant opening sequence:

The next suggestion for you is still in the TV series area. During this week I had some time to look for the composer of my favourite series at the moment, The Walking Dead; if you haven’t watched the show, it’s certainly worth at least a try!

However, while watching the show I have always been impressed on how its soundtrack could improve and emphasize the emotions and feelings in the various moments of the show in such a very subtle way, so that you aren’t really aware of the tune that’s flowing under the scene, but at the same time it manages to move you emotionally without distracting you from the scene. Needless to say that this is what all film score composers aim and that it’s all but easy to get! Especially in a weekly series in which time and resources are much short than those of the big screen movies.

So I found out that the composer of the show is Bear McCreary, known for scoring quite a few of other series, and what I discovered on his blog left me really impressed and confirmed my impression that he is a really talented and creative composer! Just take a look to his last video-blog in which he tells you on how he managed to use a Kazoo (yes, a kazoo!) in The Walking Dead score:

I know, it’s impressive! He gave a all new dimension to that weird-quacky-thing!

Well, I think it’s time to leave you for now!

I hope you enjoyed my suggestion, I’ll see you soon on these pages!

Peace,

MrW

An Early-Summer Day Stillness

Hi there!

Strange day here, somehow the greyness of today’s sky together with the summer warmth are imposing a weird relented mood on this day. I started to read Palahniuk’s Fight Club, just to face this early-summer day stillness, this book seems to be really cool, has anyone of you already read it?

Anyway, last Saturday we had a really nice gig here in our town, it was a festival named ‘Festival delle Periferie’ where we met a lot of great bands from Italy. One of those that really impressed me was Maak from Turin, here’s a video:

Support these really talented guys!

Just before ending this post, I know many of you readers are not musicians, so if you’re not intrested in guitarist’s nerdish gear updates you can stop reading this post right here, I won’t blame you! :D See you next time on this blog!

So, for those who are nerds of R’n’R, I am testing a brand new set of handmade guitar pickups made by Jaime Campbell, owner of the one-man company “The Creamery” based in Manchester, U.K.

I was looking for some cool new pickups for my guitar and I ended with buying The Creamery’s Swing-O’s, awsome filtertron styled pickups, with the retro “H” cover you expect from this kind of toy, but with a tone that goes further my expectations!

These pickups has all the brightness I wanted, a wonderful Setzer-ish twang that turns my 335-styled semi-hollow in a perfect machine for rockabilly, surf, country and all those cool retro “Pulp” tunes that I love. But the good news is that the bottom end of your sound is still there, you finally don’t have to sacrifice the body of your sound to have all that awsome sparkle! But that’s more, just a little turn on your tone knob, and here’s a classic humbucker sound for your rock-blues riffs and licks, but I use them wonderfully even in jazz tunes, giving me a little more attack to get through the mix than standard jazz-boxes, thing that I really appreciate. Yeah, you read it right, no compromises from now on!

Anyway, just to dispel any doubt, I wasn’t given any money or something for what you read :D I really like these pickups (actually I payed for those! they have reasonable prices btw, take a look) and Jaime is a really nice guy!

Well, for those who managed to read till here, that’s all folks! See you next time on these pages!

Peace,

MrW

It’s time to celebrate fellows!

I’m proud to announce that our friend Begüm has just won the 2011st edition of Polyglot Contest. Her video, Sounds Differents Feels The Same has ranked first. Yikes lass!

See you soon fellows, with further informations about our new stuff.

And now, let’s party out wıth Burhan Öçal!

LB

Hi buddies! What’s up there?

As you can see, here’s going really good! Brand new blog and A LOT of fucking cool new stuff!

First of all, I will introduce you our new Bass player! Mysterious legends and rumors of his past are flowing around, you will discover some of those staying tuned on our pages, but what’s important is that now he’s one of us! LittleGiant, it’s only a few weeks he works with us, but he has already given a lot to the project! You will see!

But for now, check out his other band’s music: Just Add Melody, they’re awesome and they’re going to be out soon with a glowing new CD, so support them!

By the way, as you may have noticed, we subscribed to a bunch of new sites and social networks that turned out to be quite inspiring!

First of all, SoundCloud, directly from Germany, it’s a nice site to share and listen to original music, but the cooler part is that YOU can comment our tunes! And there’s something MUCH COOLER: YOU can comment specific parts of each tune! So take a ride!

Another greatly inspiring site surely is Thounds, we still hadn’t much time to get into it, but we uploaded a loop from our live intro and the great thing is that YOU can add your own track over it and make the magic of music happen from anywhere in the world! We are really excited about sharing with you some of our ideas for the new tunes and listen what you all can add to them! Warm up your voices, your fingers and your percussion-converted-washtub and share with us your musical soul!

The last one is an iPhone Application that has our huge-retro-styled-hearts, it’s a really cool tool that makes you take fancy photos with a great vintage look, Instagram! Unfortunately it hasn’t got a proper Internet site for now, but you will find our profile with all our pics on your iPhones! We already posted some of the hottest photos, more are coming!

Well, that’s it for tonight! I have to build up some vocals for the new tunes!

See you soon!

Peace,

MrW

Hey fellows!
It’s time to put your hands on your computers and to start voting our friend Begüm! As you know she made an ass-kicking clip and she needs our support still. Click, click, click on the orange dot!
Btw, sorry if I’m a little over busy these days. As you can see, I’m spending all my days (until dinner time, yikes) at university to work on crazy workshops but today I have a nice tune for you (oh yes, like everytime!). It’s a very cool tune with a catchy old-times-Moby-style clip. Check it out pals!

Kwoon - I Lived on The Moon (thanks Emrah!)
Unfortunately now I’ve already to go. These days my life sucks! See ya soon fellows, take care.

A fucking good film maker

Hey fellows! What’s up?

During my travels I’ve happened to meet this talented and very promising film maker from İstanbul. Her name is Begüm Güleç.
At the moment, she’s waiting reviews about her latest work Sounds Different Feels The Same which is also her submission for latest Polyglot Video Contest. Check it out!

Sounds Different Feels The Same from B.e.g
.

So what are you waiting for, dear fellows? Rate her cool work. The Gang is already giving her all its support!
Btw, we’ve just fallen in love with a nice application for your expens-phones, if any. It’s called Instagr.am and it gives a touch of charming vintage look to your shots. Check it out and look for evasgang on the application pages.

Now, I definitely have to care about my university works but hey, mates! I’ve a little bonus for you, still. I’ve recently found this song and I’m in love with its sound. Yep.

Sertab Erener - Zor Kadın (yikes, it’s sticked in my mind!

Do you know traditional Italy?

Hey boys! Hey girls! What’s up?

I’ve come home really exahusted tonight. The Gang has just enjoyed some really cool band rehearsals but after that a cold and rainy Genova was waiting for us. Carrying my huge synthesizer with Figaro’s and Mr What’s help I reached our car and there I travelled like as I were inside a painful iron maiden.

Btw, it gave me the chance to remind something. Have I ever told you about the traditional side of our country? Since I guess the answer is hell no… Shame on me! It may be interesting for you to know that even our beloved friend Brian Viglione told us that its band, The World/Inferno Friendship Society, uses to appreciate a heavy bunch of mediterrean influences.

Dear pals, for this reason this night you’ll receive a very odd but definitely gorgeous goodnight present. Ladies and gentlemen, It’s time to enjoy the pleasure of the traditional dances - and sounds - of south of Italy!

The Italian Folk Experience!

Sogni d’oro.

LB’s latest kinky loves!

Hey fellows! Long time has passed since my last post. I’ve spent again a lot of freking cool time abroad and after that my university’s classes started again! Whew! I’m still astounded.
In any event I can already say to you we’re planning something special. Stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed buddies.

Btw, I’m here to share with you some of the crazy anthems recently looping on my personal playlist. Even now, while sipping from my huge coffee mug, they’re making my day a little bit more warm (yep, Italy’s living a way too much strong change of season for my tastes).
Here we go with Suzy from Caravan Palace!

Suzy’s flashing on dance floor and sings that she’s expecting more swinging dreams!

The creepy fact about this band from Paris is that they started their career composing music for vintage and otherwise mute porn clips!

My next suggestin is Candan Erçetin from the beautiful Turkey. The style of this lady is quite smart and warm and also widely influenced by the use of folk instruments. Enjoy Vay Halime and let’s make some Turkish practice!

Vay vay vay vay benim halime, dinlemedim anneciğimi düştüm zalime!

Time for a classic! I hope ya all know that genius of music storytelling I totally love: Nick Cave.
His majesty Nick Cave!
His majesty Nick Cave!

His ninth studio album, Murder Ballads, is a true masterpiece of dark and scary tales about murderers and psychos. Indeed a must have! Take a look to this song’s beautiful lyrics featuring the well-known Kylie Minogue: Where The Wild Roses Grow.
I think you will deeply fall in love with this short story.

Do you know where the wild roses grow, so sweet and scarlet and free?

Unfortunately some business is now waiting for me but I will post again soon. See you later dear fellows!

SHOUT!

Definitely, YES! SHOUT PARTY is the BEST party you could find yourselves in! It is really incredible!
As LuckyBastard and I considered yesterday night, while we were wandering tirely in a kind of desert-post-atomic Genova without anyone or anything alive around us, that party is the only place where I genuinely manage to have FUN!

I don’t know why, it is kind of magical, it’s the atmosphere, the people, the good music, but the fact is that there everything makes you let yourselves go and REALLY have fun! You enter this Gyps-a-Billy-Beat-Punk-Cabaret world and by the end of the concerts (yeah, it’s kind of 4 or 5 hours of uninterrupted concerts!) you are completely lost in this wonderful world!
I really have to thank you the great headliners of the party, Kamikaze Queens, and the guys that more than anyone created that magical atmosphere, the band made me dance and jump and shout more than any other there, and the guys who offered us a beer in the aftershow, Jane Walton!

Great night! I’m looking foreward to SHOUT 2011!

MrW

You can put Eva in the next Sziget Festival’s guest list! Yeah, that’s true!

Hey fellows! Eva needs your votes to become one of the guests of next Sziget Festival with Muse, Subsonica, Iron Maiden, Gorillaz, Infected Mushroom, 30 Seconds to Mars and many more international artists! How cool!
Since it could be an astounding opportunity for us, please vote for her clicking here or on the banner below

I’ve also a hot new for you! Eva’s been awarded as one of the best 12 emerging band from Italy! The Gang took part in a quite cool contest, Primo Maggio Tutto l’Anno, blasting off over 700 other bands. We didn’t won the final prize (which was for 3 bands only, yikes), but we feel really proud anyway! Plus, tomorrow night, we’re going to have a big gig at Area51 of Vignole Borbera. It will be a double celebration ‘cause we will receive another nice award as Jury’s Choice winners for Hangar19 band contest!
That makes me insanely happy! I’ll will leave Italy really amazed…

Litfiba - Istanbul

PS: here you are who was the Walrus first!

Check it out!

First of all I want to thank you one of the greatest musician and sweetest person on this tiny planet, BRIAN VIGLIONE, from Dresden Dolls and World/Inferno Friendship Society and many other incredibly cool bands. The Thoroughbred of Sin

Hi everyone! How’s it going?

It’s been a while since we last posted on this blog but, you know, this is a very hard period for us because of our recordings. They are going fine anyway.

Besides, Smoggy left for a pretty important signing on cruises.
We miss him very much.
But luckily we have a brave sobstitute: Bad Horse (the thoroughbred of sin!).
He’s a great guy, and a great bassist, check out his main project myspace page HERE.

This night we will perform our first gig with BH, at Teatro Cargo, Genova Voltri, IT, from 9 p.m., so if you are around, don’t miss it!

see you soon dear fellows!

Yours,
Mr.W
