LUCKY IN THE FLIPPIN’ NY!

Heeeeeeeeey folks! What’s up? It has been a while since my latest post. Quite true huh? Well, the point is that we have all been terribly busy taking care of exams at university (and talking about me, my Master’s Degree thesis. Yikes!), somebody has moved to a different city, Italy itself has been a MESS. We had no pope, no government, no police chief… Yes UK, we are following you. Anarchy in Italy… About time.

However, however, however… There are no excuses for not sharing the pearls of awesomess I have been collecting during this time. I was kind of waiting for something to push me sharing my latest updates and well, that something has hit me right this morning. Thank you blog secret lover, you made me defeat the lazyness monster!

But let’s stop procrastinating. The most awesome-st thing that is happening to me right now is that I AM IN NEW YORK. Bloody hell! Yes fellows, no jokes, after hitting  London and Istanbul I am in the big apple! Here you are a proof that I am not fooling you!

image

A sweet view from Bladeru Manhattan

I don’t know if you have ever been here. Well, to be honest I had never been a fan of NY. The big city, the business, the hyper-activity of the people… Well, all these things are sweet, but I have never felt them on my strings. But once here, I realized that something was completely different from my idea of New York. MOVIES ALL LIE. Which is something strange for somebody like me. I use to see movies (and music, books, the arts in general) emphasizing about things, but what they do say about NY? If you ask me, they all lie.

image

Do you love this show huh? Well I used to love it until it simply became way toooooo looooong and sloooow

So, no folks, New York is not all flashing lights, junk food, the amusements and the oppurtunities. It’s not all white people in one side and then all the black people on the other side and then the asians (which FYI are a lot!). Shit no. New York is all these things together. New York has not an actual identity unless we consider its mashup of different people its real own identity. Think about it as a huge college party, where people of any kind are in. People, it is a friggin’ melting pot! And that is awesome.

To me, to see all these different people gathered in one city in the world makes it quite rare and interesting. I just wonder why the reality of things is so rarely told into movies, or television, or novels. New Yorkers, you might have the shining light of the VIPs (meh…) but people, you are a flippin’ constant mess of different cultures. That makes you cool. Think about it.

I am here since less than a week, but so far this is my impression. I might be wrong, but a part of me wishes badly to not be awakened from this unexpected state of things. But well, I have more than three weeks more to spend here, so I will keep you in the loop about anything new and/or interesting about my trip.

In the meantime… Some goodies!

Budapest Bár - Szívemben Bomba Van. A memory from my latest trip to Budapest. Shit, I am still in love with this stuff!

An AWESOME video clip I have found thanks to a friend of mine! Quite inspiring! (The preview is partially misleading)

Another cool video I have found. Simple, yet effective!

…And talking about simple but effective things. Look what I have done while here in NY. Yes! I went to the International Pillow Fight Day, yikes!

Come on man, seriosly? This is cheating!

But it is not over yet. Since I have tons of update, here you are another song (or should I say, a part of a musical?) I have lately found.

Wha-? Paris Hilton???

Die Hard Dracula, a movie I just must watch

See you soon, pals! -Lucky

Post-atomic Cornflakes!
Hello guys! Even if I had to overcome a couple of technical issues, I am finally here to give some updates. First of All, Tester is almost done! You are going to enjoy a short but deeply silly clip of our work… Plus a new Behind The Scenes of all the filmmaking process, thank to our friend Gabriele Principato.
But there is more. The gang is going to start working more with its holophonic toys. Yeah, get ready to experience some new goodies. In the meantime let me suggest you the best holophonic shit made. Ever! Take your headphones and listen to Roger Waters’ The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking. It is sweet. It is superb. It is super cool! I happened to listen to it one night, unable to sleep well. Man, how a great experience.

Taste it.

The Walking Kazoo

Hello again dear eva-fellows! What’s up? Hope everything’s fine for you as it is for us!

As you know, we released our very first short movie last week and we are really happy of all the good feedback we are receiving! So, do you like it? if you missed it, well, no trouble, you can reach it directly on our Vimeo Page, or just clicking on the “DAYDREAM” preview on the left column of this blog! Of course, every positive or (hopefully not :D) negative feedback or comment is REALLY appreciated, so don’t be shy and tell us what you think! ;)

However, as usual, in this post I’ll give you some suggestion of what is thrilling the Gang in these days, and obviously while doing that, I’ll listen to some new cool music!

The amazing album I’m listening to right now is one of the last I bought, “Ogni riferimento… è puramente casuale” from Calibro35, probably the most intresting band in Italy of these days, for me at least! Listen to them and support this great band!

The second suggestion I’ll give you tonight is a very absorbing TV show, Dexter. LuckyBastard introduced me to the series right during the making of DAYDREAM and it really fascinated me, expecially for its particular and rather “claustrophobic” photography, as you can see from its brilliant opening sequence:

The next suggestion for you is still in the TV series area. During this week I had some time to look for the composer of my favourite series at the moment, The Walking Dead; if you haven’t watched the show, it’s certainly worth at least a try!

However, while watching the show I have always been impressed on how its soundtrack could improve and emphasize the emotions and feelings in the various moments of the show in such a very subtle way, so that you aren’t really aware of the tune that’s flowing under the scene, but at the same time it manages to move you emotionally without distracting you from the scene. Needless to say that this is what all film score composers aim and that it’s all but easy to get! Especially in a weekly series in which time and resources are much short than those of the big screen movies.

So I found out that the composer of the show is Bear McCreary, known for scoring quite a few of other series, and what I discovered on his blog left me really impressed and confirmed my impression that he is a really talented and creative composer! Just take a look to his last video-blog in which he tells you on how he managed to use a Kazoo (yes, a kazoo!) in The Walking Dead score:

I know, it’s impressive! He gave a all new dimension to that weird-quacky-thing!

Well, I think it’s time to leave you for now!

I hope you enjoyed my suggestion, I’ll see you soon on these pages!

Peace,

MrW

Storyboard (and much more): done!

Hey fellows! We’re going to release something new and cool, and it’s gonna be soon! I’ve spent a few of days working on a horrible-looking-but-necessary storyboard listening Dexter OST as creepy soundtrack (and you will see, it has been a very inspiring idea), which is also my latest suggestion: just watch it, Dexter is an awesome show! (and it was inspired by a book. It will be mine in a flash!)

But this is not the only news I have. We have spent a very funny morning latest sunday with Elstump and our friend Gregory from Just Add Melody. They worked as dubbers for the biggest Eva-news ever! Our upcoming short movie: Daydream. Of course I’ve shot something from that day, so you will enjoy it in the next days as a behind the scenes special!
I’ll keep you in the loop guys!

Screenplay: done!

Hey fellows! I’m glad to see you that we’ve just had a cool meeting with our friend Elstump. With her help we’ve revised a new and ass-kicking screenplay. The coolest thing? You’re going to watch an original experimental short movie from the Gang in less than one month. Yikes!

So, there’s a very important task for you my friends. We really need you to support Mr.What’s 3d sounds experiments because we’re going to involve the latest holophonic sound techniques in our short. Man, it’s gonna be a lot of work!

Elstump and Mr.What (and Lucky taking the shot) revising the new screenplay

Support the gang now! Look how we are cute while working!

A touching image. To be an artist in Italy means you will not be able to afford at the same time a decent phone and a real notepad!

A touching capture. To be an artist in Italy means you will not be able to afford a decent phone and a real notepad at the same time!

Btw, while we’re working hard I wish to share with you something that Mr.What has recently found. C’era Una Volta a Roma (Once Upon A Time In Rome… And no, it is not a coincidence) is a massive event promoted by Red Bull Music Academy. The juicy thing is that all-star musicians from all over the world had been directed to perform the music of the most awesome Italian cult movies. The event featured fresh and witty artists such as Musica Nuda, which we really love.

Fair enough for now. I will keep you up to date step-by-step my friends. See you soon!

There’s something HOT this Fall!

Hey fellows! How is it going?

The Gang is quickly developing a completely brand-new show and quite soon we’ll share a tasty preview of it with you. Meanwhile I can say you that it will involve music, visual arts and acting. All together.

“Peter Gabriel - The Rhythm of The Heat” Yikes!

Ok, this was definitely a long shot but even without the amazing New Blood orchestra we’re now working on a new songwriting style, which will make the Gang’s songs quite more similar to a soundtrack than its previous releases.
That it means we’re getting ready for something definitely big this time and for this we will need all your support… Wait for it!

On the other hand despite these busy times, we have just experienced some juicy pearls of inspiration thanks to Camille’s latest LP: Ilo Veyou. Oh fuck, it is an awesome work!

“Camille - Ilo Veyou” This woman is pure awesomess

In any event this song is reminding me another crazy and cool woman you should know. Kate Bush.
The english girl is quite important not just because she composed some timeless masterpieces, in fact she put on stage a revolutionary way to perform her songs in which lyrics, her body and her powerful voice become a dinamic set surronding the show (and you).

“Kate Bush - Sat in Your Lap” She still inspires me quite much.

My music suggestions aren’t finished yet, however. I’ve started to work quite much about video productions and my latest researches have taken me to some interesting clips I would like to share with you.
Who said you need a lot of different locations to arrange a freaking cool clip? Check this out!

“Oren Lavie - Her Morning Elegance” Hell! I’m crazy for stop motion.

If you like interesting motion techniques you should also consider to watch this clip. The mood is nearly the opposite, the taste definitely greedy.

“Noisia - Machinegun” Bang bang!

Now I will stop myself for a while, but you can be already sure my next posts will be plenty of cool stuff like these and more else. Stay tuned!

So you want to be a writer? [Charles Bukowsky]

if it doesn't come bursting out of you
in spite of everything,
don't do it.
unless it comes unasked out of your
heart and your mind and your mouth
and your gut,
don't do it.
if you have to sit for hours
staring at your computer screen
or hunched over your
typewriter
searching for words,
don't do it.
if you're doing it for money or
fame,
don't do it.
if you're doing it because you want
women in your bed,
don't do it.
if you have to sit there and
rewrite it again and again,
don't do it.
if it's hard work just thinking about doing it,
don't do it.
if you're trying to write like somebody
else,
forget about it.

if you have to wait for it to roar out of
you,
then wait patiently.
if it never does roar out of you,
do something else.

if you first have to read it to your wife
or your girlfriend or your boyfriend
or your parents or to anybody at all,
you're not ready.

don't be like so many writers,
don't be like so many thousands of
people who call themselves writers,
don't be dull and boring and
pretentious, don't be consumed with self-
love.
the libraries of the world have
yawned themselves to
sleep
over your kind.
don't add to that.
don't do it.
unless it comes out of
your soul like a rocket,
unless being still would
drive you to madness or
suicide or murder,
don't do it.
unless the sun inside you is
burning your gut,
don't do it.

when it is truly time,
and if you have been chosen,
it will do it by
itself and it will keep on doing it
until you die or it dies in you.

there is no other way.

and there never was.

A fucking good film maker

Hey fellows! What’s up?

During my travels I’ve happened to meet this talented and very promising film maker from İstanbul. Her name is Begüm Güleç.
At the moment, she’s waiting reviews about her latest work Sounds Different Feels The Same which is also her submission for latest Polyglot Video Contest. Check it out!

So what are you waiting for, dear fellows? Rate her cool work. The Gang is already giving her all its support!
Btw, we’ve just fallen in love with a nice application for your expens-phones, if any. It’s called Instagr.am and it gives a touch of charming vintage look to your shots. Check it out and look for evasgang on the application pages.

Now, I definitely have to care about my university works but hey, mates! I’ve a little bonus for you, still. I’ve recently found this song and I’m in love with its sound. Yep.

Machete Don’t Text, Machete Improvises

Yes Dudes, it is really happening, I’m definitely going to talk you about the most awsome movie in 2010: MACHETE!

As you may have come to know by now, I am a great B-movie fan! But this time, with this movie, I think that this genre has come to a new level!
It is REALLY AWSOME! It has become one of my favourite films ever, it has all the typical b-movie contents but it’s much more than this!

First, it has an exceptional cast, featuring, among the others, Danny Trejo (the TOUGH Machete!), Lindsey Lohan, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagull and His Majesty Robert DeNiro!

Second, it all started from the famous Fake Trailer in Rodriguez’s Planet Terror, and even if it was fucking hard to make an entire movie cooler than the trailer, Rodriguez got it MUCH MORE MEMORABLE!
If you missed the trailer, here it is!

Isn’t incredible that there could be something better than this?

Third, unlike most b-movies, it has also an interesting and meaningful plot! Fact that for the genre lovers isn’t strictly necessary, but thanks to this a lot of people could appreciate this Masterpiece!

So definitely, YOU ALL have to watch this!

Yours,
MrW
